Guernsey Folklore Map of fairies, witches and black dogs

The places where the island's old stories are still attached to the ground: the dolmens where pouques danced, the headland where witches kept their Friday Sabbat, and the lanes walked by headless dogs.

Stories retold from Sir Edgar MacCulloch's Guernsey Folk Lore (1903), John Linwood Pitts's witch-trial transcripts (1886), Guernsey Museums' folklore stories adapted from Marie de Garis's Folklore of Guernsey, and the sources listed with each entry. Photographs dated 1903 are plates from MacCulloch.

Many sites are on private land. Please keep to public roads and paths.
